Content Improvement (NIH’s NIDDK/Sapient)

Pitch to NIDDK leadership on how we would approach reviewing and simplifying their scientific content published across 4 websites.

Conducted user interviews to understand how general public researched conditions/diseases. Ran card sorting with general public to understand how they organized content. Ran readability tests to understand best reading level.

Problem

Visitors researching health conditions had to sort through duplicative content on the NIDDK (NIH) websites. The pages, originally print publications, were written at varying reading levels, which was not obvious online. This slowed down the research process and decreased the Institution's credibility.

NIDDK (NIH) scientists were concerned that edits to the content would not retaining scientific  standards.

Solution

I combined the multiple print publications into one web presence that tested well with diverse reading level participants. Paired with the website redesign, the new content is written with the bite, snack, meal approach for multiple reading levels and channels.

The Institute's scientists also approved the content.

Responsibilities

  • Developed and pitched strategy for updating content

  • Interviewed users

  • Drafted example content

  • Conducted user testing

  • Directed writing staff for additional content rewrites
